the lame walk,
lepers are cleansed,
the deaf hear, the dead are raised,
the poor have the good news proclaimed to them.
And blessed is the one who takes no offense at me.
-- Lk 7:18b-23
When the Church celebrates the liturgy of Advent each year, she makes present this ancient expectancy of the Messiah, for by sharing in the long preparation for the Savior's first coming, the faithful renew their ardent desire for his second coming. By celebrating the precursor's birth and martyrdom, the Church unites herself to his desire: "He must increase, but I must decrease."

Blessed Mary Frances Schervier, pray for us.
Father,
ReplyDeleteThis verse appears in both Matthew and Luke:
"And blessed is the one who takes no offense at me."
I have considered it but can't understand what Jesus meant by this. Care for an exegesis? It would be appreciated!
Pax tecum!
D.v.
Dear Deo Volente,
ReplyDeleteI think it has to do with scandal. Those who are offended by God's will and ways, who are not docile to the Holy Spirit, cut themselves off from God's grace, thus are not "blessed" as are those who open their hearts and minds to God revealing Himself perfectly in Christ.
Thanks for visiting.
