O God, who didst give strength and learning to blessed Peter thy Confessor for the defense of the Catholic faith, mercifully grant, that by his example and teaching the erring may be saved and the faithful remain constant in the confession of truth.
Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end.

God, Who in thine unspeakable foreknowledge didst choose thy blessed servant Joseph to be the husband of thine Own most holy Mother; mercifully grant that now that he is in heaven with thee, we who on earth do reverence him for our Defender, may worthily be holpen by the succour of his prayers to thee on our behalf;
Who livest and reignest with God the Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, world without end.

Note in the Gospel of the feast of St. Martin the Bishop, after the beginning
I shall always love and reverence the Apostles sent by Christ, and their successors as well, in their work of sowing the Gospel seed. For all such may justly say of themselves: Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. It was Christ himself, like a watchful and most faithful householder, who wished that the Gospel-lamp should be lighted by his ministers and stewards with fire sent down from heaven; and once lighted, that it should not be put under a bushel, but set upon a candlestick, so as to spread its brightness far and wide, and put to flight all darkness and error rife among both Jews and Gentiles.

May blessed Peter thy Confessor and illustrious Doctor intercede for us, O Lord, that this thy sacrifice may obtain for us salvation.

Refreshed at the fount of divine blessing, we beseech thee, O Lord our God, that as thou dost gladden us by the protection of blessed Joseph, so by his merits and intercession thou woulds make us partakers of his heavenly glory.
