Sun, 12/15/24:
Today is the 3rd Sunday of Advent (Gaudete Sunday) under the 1954 (semi-double Sunday of the II class) and 1962 (I class Sunday) rubrics.
Mass: Proper Mass. Rose (violet if rose vestments are not available). Omit Gloria. Gradual/Alleluia. Credo. Preface of the Most Holy Trinity (1962: optional Preface of Advent). Benedicamus (1954)/Ite (1962). Under 1954, commemoration of the octave day of the Immaculate Conception at all Masses. No commemorations or additional prayers under the 1962 rubrics.
At solemn Mass, under the 1954 rubrics, deacon and subdeacon wear rose (or violet) dalmatic and tunicle, respectively, in place of the folded chasubles they wear at all other Sundays and ferial days of Advent. (The use of folded chasubles in the Roman rite was initially suppressed in Holy Week under Pius XII's 1956 reforms, then eliminated from the Roman rite entirely under John XXIII's 1960 Code of Rubrics [effective Jan 1, 1961]). ℣. The Lord be with you.
℟. And with thy spirit.
Let us pray.
Lend Your ear to our prayers, O Lord, we beseech You; and brighten the darkness of our minds by the grace of Your coming.
Who livest and reignest with God the Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, world without end.
℟. Amen
Let us pray.
Commemoration Octave of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary
O God, Who by the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin, prepared a worthy dwelling for Your Son, and Who, by Your Son’s death, foreseen by You, preserved her from all taint, grant, we beseech You, through her intercession, that we too may come to You unstained by sin.
Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end.
℟. Amen.
