℣. Glória Patri,
℣. The Lord be with you.
℟. And with thy spirit.
Let us pray.
O God, from Whom all good things do come, grant to us thy humble servants that by thy holy inspiration we may think those things that be good, and by thy merciful guiding may perform the same.
Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end.
℟. Amen.
Let us pray.
Commemoration St. Gregory VII, Pope and Confessor
O God, the strength of those who trust in You, Who fortified blessed Gregory, Your Confessor and Pontiff, with the virtue of firmness to protect the freedom of the Church, grant us, by his example and intercession, bravely to overcome all evil.
Commemoration St. Urban, Pope and Martyr
O God, Who firmly established Your Church upon the rock of the apostle and delivered her from the dreadful powers of hell, grant, we beseech You, that through the intercession of blessed Urban, Your Martyr and Supreme Pontiff, she may remain faithful to Your truth so as to be always safe under Your protection.
Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end.
℟. Amen.
John 16:23-30
At that time, Jesus said unto His disciples: Amen, Amen, I say unto you: Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in My Name, He will give it you. And so on.
Homily by St. Augustine, Bishop of Hippo.
102nd Tract on John.
We have now to consider these words of the Lord “Amen, Amen, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in My Name, He will give it you.” It hath already been said in the earlier part of this discourse of the Lord, for the sake of some who ask the Father in Christ's Name and receive not, that whatsoever is asked, which tendeth not to salvation, is not asked in the Name of the Saviour. By the words “In My Name” we must not understand the vocalization of letters and syllables, but the meaning of what is said, the honest and true meaning.
P. The Lord be with you.
S. And with thy spirit.
Let us pray.
Grant us, O Lord, fed with the virtue of a heavenly table, to desire what is right, and to gain what we desire.
Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end.
℟. Amen.
Let us pray.
Commemoration St. Gregory VII, Pope and Confessor
Grant, we beseech You, almighty God, that as we thank You for the favors we have received, we may, by the intercession of blessed Gregory, Your Confessor and Bishop, obtain still greater blessings.
Commemoration St. Urban, Pope and Martyr
Increase within Your Church, we beseech You, O Lord, the gift of grace You have given her, and through the prayers of blessed Urban, Your Martyr and Supreme Pontiff, may the flock never fail in obedience to the shepherd nor the shepherd in the faithful care of his flock.
Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end.
℟. Amen.
